Call for Applications: Senior Lecturer for Teaching Quran Arabic

The Department of Islamic-Theological Studies at the Faculty of Philological and Cultural Faculty of Vienna University seeks to fill the position as soon as possible of a Senior Lecturer at the Institute for Islamic Studies.

The Department of Islamic-Theological Studies at the Faculty of Philological and Cultural Faculty provides theological research and teaching to promote scientific education for religious trainees. Within the scope of the implementation of §24 Islamgesetz (Islam Law) 2015 a new bachelor’s program will be established. The curriculum proposes the acquirement of knowledge of Koran Arabic. The new position is devoted to language teaching in this area.

Duration of employment: 4 year/s
Extent of Employment: 20.0 hours/week, which include teaching in the field of grammer for 8,5 hours weekly per semester.
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:
As senior lecturer you will mainly work in the teaching of Quran Arabic for participants of the bachelor’s program at the Institute for Islamic-Theological studies. Active participation in the planning of the teaching contents of Arabic courses within the scope of the bachelor’s program “Islamic-Theological Studies”, coordination of the Arabic teaching contents with the requirements of the different core subjects of Islamic Theology offered at the institute are also expected.

It expects the successful candidate to keep abreast of the state of scientific knowledge and continue their professional development. Your assignment will also include administrative tasks, especially in course administration.

In case of positive evaluation (after 4 years) the employment will be made permanent.

Profile:
a. Degree (diploma or master degree) in the field of Arabic Studies (Arabic of the Qur’an)/Islamic Studies (or related studies) with a certificate of excellent language skills in Arabic/Arabic of the Qur’an.
b. Several years of teaching experience at institutions of post-secondary education notably in the field of Koran-Arabic teaching.
c. Experience in research projects (desired)
d. Organizational talent, willingness to teamwork, communication skills and intercultural and interreligious competence

Excellent German and English language skills are required for this Position.
