URD Intensive Course on Shia Studies (Vienna 2018)

The University of Religions and Denominations with its experience of organizing six intensive international courses on Shia Studies in Iran (Qom) and attracting more than a hundred participants from 42 countries, is organizing the first Shia Studies course outside Iran in collaboration with Iman Academy in Vienna, Austria.

The Shi’a Intensive Course endeavors to enhance scholarly attention to Shi’i Islam and offer an original and insightful understanding of its doctrines, practices and social approaches. Combining the classical Shi’a thought and the current political, social, and religious concerns of Shi’a society, the Shi’a Intensive Course aims to offer a scholarly Shi’a perspectives on traditional and contemporary issues that affect Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Benefitting from the best professors of Qom›s Islamic Seminary and Iran’s  universities, this course provide the chance to develop your skills and  knowledge, expand your international experience, and study unique and  interesting subjects on Shiism in Iran in a dialogue-centered and academic  environment. The program is accredited by the University of Religions and Denominations (Qom, Iran).  Participants will attend in 26 hours of lectures and discussion presented in English, and will receive an official certificate at the end of the course upon the successful participation.

  • Sources of Shiʻite Islamic Thought
  • Shiʻite Principles of Belief (doctrines of Imamate & Mahdaviat)
  • Shi›ite Mystical and Moral System
  • Shiʻite Sociology (Shiʻite rites and rituals)
  • Shia Political Thought
  • Shiʻite Religious Authority, Jurisprudence and Laws
  • Women and Family according to Shiʻite Islam
  • Shiʻism and Religious Plurality

Who Can Apply?

The Shi’a Intensive Course is open to scholars, researchers, professors and students from all around the world. The program is designed for academics from various background, who are interested in expanding their understanding of Islam, Shiism and Iran. Individuals from a wide range of academic and/or professional interests are welcome to apply.

A fee of €80must be paid in advance in order for the application process to be complete. Due to a limited capacity, priority will be given to those who complete their applications before 20th of June, 2018.

Course Fee

The Course fee is €320which covers class attendance, educational booklets, lunch, snacks and refreshments. It must be noted that participants are responsible for all other expenses like flights, accommodation, health insurance etc; however, the organizers are ready to make the necessary arrangements in order to facilitate the above mentioned issues if needed.
