The Institute of Islamic Theology at the University of Osnabrück invites paper proposals for its conference entitled Innovative Approaches in Islamic Sciences and Education, to be held in Osnabrück, September 20-22, 2018.
The conference has two main goals: First, to allow an interdisciplinary discussion about new ways and approaches to re-think and re-interpret the rich legacy and history of traditional Islamic scholarship in the contemporary world. In this regard, we are particularly interested in discussing whether, and to what extent, an innovation within the diverse intellectual legacy of traditional Islamic scholarship is possible today. And second, to contribute to the ongoing academic reflection about the improvement of the quality of Islamic education and the development of better curricula for religious research and teaching institutions. Our main focus here is, how to improve both the theoretical and practical parts of the teaching of Islamic subjects, in a way that allows us to meet the needs of our changing societies. Thus, we would like to open the floor also to religious education scholars to discuss the new educational methods and principles in their respective fields.
