Ayatollah Nouri Hamedani Slams Nigeria for Torturing Sheikh Zakzaky

It is necessary for all libertarians and Muslims to give their full support to these oppressed people especially Sheikh Zakzaky and to condemn the crime against him.

What follow is the statement by Shia grand Marja’, Ayatollah Hussain Nouri Hamedani, in which he condemned Nigeria for Torturing Sheikh Zakzaky:

Unfortunately, we have heard some bad news regarding the critical conditions of Sheikh Zakzaky. The crime against people who suffer pain and torture in Nigeria is a cause for concern.

This great scholar, Sheikh Zakzaky, has been arrested on baseless accusations and tortured for a long time. His fundamental rights have been trampled underfoot.

Those who are pretending to defend human rights have shut their eyes and mouths to the crime against him. The international organizations have remained silent about this crisis and they have turned to the useless and ineffective entities.

It is necessary for all libertarians and Muslims to give their full support to these oppressed people especially Sheikh Zakzaky and to condemn the crime against him.

The authorities of Islamic Republic of Iran also need to try harder than before to save these oppressed people.

Sheikh Zakzaky has been held in detention since 2015 and was charged just in April 2018 with murder, culpable homicide, unlawful assembly, disruption of public peace and other accusations. He has pleaded not guilty.

In 2016, Nigeria’s federal high court ordered his unconditional release from jail following a trial, but the government has so far refused to set him free.

The top cleric, who is in his mid-sixties, lost his left eyesight in a raid which was carried out by the Nigerian army on his residence in the northern town of Zaria in December 2015.

During the raid, Zakzaky’s wife sustained serious wounds too and more than 300 of his followers and three of his sons were killed. Zakzaky, his wife, and a large number of the cleric’s followers have since been in custody.
