This text attempts to explain the benefits of modest dress, the philosophic and social reasons for dressing modestly, and analyses the rules and laws involving appropriate gender interaction, explaining in details the divine command to the modest dress (hijab) from the traditional Islamic point of view using as sources the Quran, the Sunnah or customs of the Prophet of Islam and commentators of the various Muslim sects.
The fact is that the covering or its new expression, hijab, is not concerned with whether or not it is good for a woman to appear in society covered or uncovered. The point is whether or not a woman and a man’s need of her should be a limitless, free association or not.
