Conference: Aspects of Quranic Scholarship-Philosophy Meets Theology

A conference titled “Aspects of Qur’anic Scholarship – Philology meets Theology” is planned to be held in the German capital of Berlin on September 23-26, 2016.

Organized by: Center for Islamic Theology (University of Muenster), Corpus Coranicum Project (Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities) and CRC 980 Episteme in Motion (Free University Berlin)

The aim of the conference is to set different fields of research of the Qur’an studies related. In this way, synergies between philology and theology shall be identified. For the considered research fields include the tradition of the Qur’an-text, the Late Antiquity Arabia, Christian and Jewish reflections in the Qur’an, epistemic notions in late antiquity and philological and theological approaches to the Qur’an text.

The conference explores areas of Qur’anic studies and brings different subfields in dialogue with each other. In this way, synergies between theology and philology are created and common methodological and theoretical challenges and chances addressed.
