Call for Application: Visiting Assistant Professor, Islamic Studies

The Department of Religious Studies at Bucknell University invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor (VAP) in Islamic Studies, to begin August 2022.

Teaching load is six courses for the academic year, three per semester. Teaching responsibilities include RELI 100, Introduction to the Qur’an; RELI 201, Islam; RELI 256 Islam in America; and other courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. by start date.

The Department of Religious Studies at Bucknell serves majors and minors pursuing the academic study of religion, as well as a large number of students from across the university. The ideal candidate will be a teacher-scholar with an interest in interdisciplinary approaches to the study of Islam, and with a demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity and the liberal arts mission.

We seek a teacher-scholar who has a demonstrated commitment to diversity and high impact educational practices (writing intensive courses, interdisciplinary courses, global learning, etc.) that would appeal to a broad university audience. We encourage applications from members of groups that have been historically underrepresented in higher education. We invite candidates to explain how issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion are brought into their teaching, scholarship, and/or service in their application materials.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, C.V., statement of teaching philosophy, three letters of recommendation, and a sample syllabus for a course on Islam.
