To mark the two thousand days of the detention of Sheikh Zakzaky, the Islamic Movement of Nigeria issued a statement expressing concern over the continuous detention of the Islamic cleric, but most especially the silence of other Nigerians over this injustice.
In December 2015, Sheikh Zakzaky was arrested by security forces following an attack on his home and worship center where hundreds of his supporters were killed by soldiers.
The statement by the Islamic Movement said the silence of those who were supposed to have condemned the injustice is more painful than the jubilation of the oppressors.
For over five years, members of the Islamic Movement have been coming out to protest seeking the release of Sheikh Zakzaky, but the Nigerian government has kept a deaf ear.
Over three hundred supporters of Sheikh Zakzaky were killed and dumped in a mass grave without proper identification and funeral prayers. This and the attack on Sheikh Zakzaky and his supporters, according to the Islamic Movement, were despicable and unacceptable.
Sheikh Zakzaky has been in detention for close to six years.
The Islamic Movement in Nigeria called on the Nigerian authorities to comply with the Federal High Court order and release Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat.
