The First International Conference on Halal Tourism will be held on February 9 – 11, 2018 in Bali, Indonesia, with the theme: “Halal Tourism: Towards Greater Understanding and New Ventures.”
Halal tourism is a relatively new idea in the tourism industry and refers to activities that are aligned with Islamic principles for engaging more Muslims in the tourism industry. Halal tourism industry includes hotel, transportation, food and beverage, and services. As stated on the State of the Global Islamic Economy Report 2015 by Thomson Reuters, the global Muslim travel expenditure is estimated to be worth US$142 billion in 2014 or 11% of the total global travel expenditure (excluding hajj and umrah). This number is estimated to grow to US$233 billion on 2020.
These developments indicate that halal tourism will show positive upward traction among Muslim-majority countries and non-Muslim majority countries. In Indonesia, the national government has recognized the high potential of halal tourism as a key driver of international competitiveness and local creativity. Thus, promoting halal tourism through a multi-sectoral approach, and gaining a better understanding of its business and economic growth potential for localities, necessitates the undertaking of an international gathering of researchers, top national and international academics, industry, and government agencies, that could provide the platform for the exchange of insights, ideas, information, and global experiences related to halal tourism.
President University’s Halal Tourism Center is providing such a platform by organizing the First International Conference on Halal Tourism on February 9 – 11, 2018 in Bali, Indonesia, with the theme: “Halal Tourism: Towards Greater Understanding and New Ventures”
This conference aims to gather researchers, practitioners, and decision makers to critically share and discuss the latest empirical, conceptual, as well as theoritical findings and trends in the field of halal tourism industry and the industries supporting it.
