“Verify Halal” App Launches in Malaysia

The region’s first official smartphone app to verify the halal status of food products at hypermarkets has been launched.

Called “Verify Halal”, it is approved by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim).

It is developed by Serunai Commerce, in collaboration with the Global Halal Data Pool, the global repository of halal brands and products.

Jakim Halal Hub Division director Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee, who launched the smartphone app said it is time to ensure that consumers and retailers can instantly check the halal integrity of any product.

“It’s about enhancing consumer confidence. Verify Halal is not only directly connected to our Jakim database, but it also extends to numerous global certification bodies that Jakim recognises.

“We want the app to become a global consumer and halal brand reference point, and to boost the integrity of the halal industry, ” he added.

The launch was witnessed by Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd managing director Datuk Dr Ameer Ali Mydin, Serunai Commerce CEO Amanah Shaari and founder of Global Halal Data Pool and Verify Halal app Fauzi Abdul Hamid.
