An international conference titled “Baqi Cemetery, Burial Place of Imams and Companions” kicked off in the Iranian holy city of Qom on Thursday.
Hojjat al-Islam Syyid Abd al-Fattah Nawwab, the representative of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Hajj and Pilgrimage Affairs, and Ayatollah Mohsen Qomi, the international affairs deputy of the Leader’s office, were present at the opening ceremony.
The Hajj and Pilgrimage Research Center has organized the conference in cooperation with 30 other institutes and centers on the anniversary of the destruction of the Baqi Cemetery in Medina.
Fifteen books written about the Baqi cemetery and those buried there were also unveiled during the opening ceremony.
The conference has been attended by university and seminary scholars, thinkers and researchers from all over the Muslim world.
According to the organizers, 66 papers have been accepted by the secretariat of the conference.
Participants in the two-day scholarly event will discuss themes like political and social studies about Baqi, contemporary studies about Baqi, historical and civilization studies of Baqi, and international studies on Baqi.
