Grand Ayatollahs’ Message of Condolence over the Demise of Ayatollah Rouhani

Iran’s Supreme leader, Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei and some other Shia Grand Marāji‘ issued messages of condolence over the demise of prominent Shia jurist, Ayatollah Mohammad Sadiq Rouhani.

Ayatollah Khamenei’s Message

Ayatollah Khamenei has expressed his condolences on the passing of Ayatollah Haj Sayyid Sadiq Rouhani. The text of the Leader’s message of condolence is as follows:

In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I offer my condolences on the demise of the late Ayatollah Haj Sayyid Sadiq Rouhani (may God be satisfied with him) to his honorable relatives, the noble Rohuani family, his students, and those who held that venerable jurist in esteem. I ask God to bestow His mercy and forgiveness on him.

Ayatollah Sistani’s Message

In his message, Ayatollah Sistani praised the late scholar for having spent long years of his life in teaching and training seminary students and promoting the teachings of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).

He offered condolences over the demise to Imam of the time (may Allah subḥānahū wa ta‘āla hasten his noble reappearance), the Islamic Seminary of Qom and the family members and devotees of Ayatollah Rouhani.

Ayatollah Sistani also prayed God to bestow upon his soul mercy and elevate his ranks and to give patience to the bereaved family.

Ayatollah Nouri Hamedani’s Message  

In a message, Shia cleric Grand Ayatollah Hussein Nouri Hamedani expressed his condolences on the demise of Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq Rouhani.

The text of Grand Ayatollah Nouri Hamadani’s condolence message following the passing of Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq Rouhani is as follows:

In the name of God

“To God We Belong and To God We Return”

The news of the passing away of Ayatollah Haj Sayyid Sadiq Rouhani (may God have mercy on his soul) caused a lot of grief and sadness.

That great jurist spent his blessed life on the path of promoting the culture of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and by training many students and authoring valuable works, he left valuable works of his own.

I offer my condolences for the loss of this pious scholar to the blessed presence of Hazrat Baghiyyatollah al-Azam (may Allah subḥānahū wa ta‘āla hasten his noble reappearance) and seminaries, noble family, students, especially their son, and I pray for the late Ayatollah’s eminent position in the hereafter.

Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi’s Message

In the Name of Allah, the All-Beneficent, the All-Merciful.

‘Indeed we belong to Allah and to Him do we indeed return.’

The passing away of the divinely endowed scholar and prominent jurist, Ayatollah Hajj Sayyid Mohammad Sadiq Hosseini Rouhani (may Allah bless him peace) caused a lot of sadness and sorrow. This wise scholar devoted many years of his noble life to teaching the sciences and knowledge of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and left valuable students, works, and books. I offer my condolences to the Imam of the Time (may Allah subḥānahū wa ta‘āla hasten his noble reappearance), the seminaries, its students, and especially to his respected family. I wish the remaining members of his family patience and reward.

Ayatollah Rouhani passed away in Qom on Friday, December 16, at the age of 96.

Born in July 1926, Ayatollah Rouhani was a renowned instructor in the Islamic Seminary of Qom. It is believed that his father was the person who convinced Sheikh Abd al-Karim Haeri Yazdi to move to the city of Qom and establish the seminary there.
