Being the basis for the editions currently published in the frame of the Bibliotheca Maqriziana series, this manuscript is here exhaustively studied for the first time from various points of view, including its history, its contents, its method and context of production. As such, this study also provides insights into al-Maqrīzī’s life as a scholar and a writer.

Frédéric Bauden, Ph.D. (1996), University of Liège (Belgium), is Professor of Arabic Language and Islamic Studies. He has extensively published on the Egyptian historian al-Maqrīzī (d. 1442). He is the editor of the Brill series Bibliotheca Maqriziana.
