In Al-Maqrīzī’s Collection of Opuscules Frédéric Bauden offers an analysis of a unique example of this author’s production.
The book “Al-Maqrīzī’s Collection of Opuscules: An Introduction” was written by Frédéric Bauden and will published on December, 2017 by BRILL publication.
MS OR. 560, preserved at the University of Leiden since the seventeenth c., consists of a collection of opuscules, most of them authored by al-Maqrīzī but copied by a scribe at his request and emended by the author shortly after. Being the basis for the editions currently published in the frame of the Bibliotheca Maqriziana series, this manuscript is here exhaustively studied for the first time from various points of view, including its history, its contents, its method and context of production. As such, this study also provides insights into al-Maqrīzī’s life as a scholar and a writer.
Frédéric Bauden, Ph.D. (1996), University of Liège (Belgium), is Professor of Arabic Language and Islamic Studies. He has extensively published on the Egyptian historian al-Maqrīzī (d. 1442). He is the editor of the Brill series Bibliotheca Maqriziana.
