IEUS Condemns Sheikh Isa Qassim’s Trial in Bahrain

Islamic European Union of Shia Scholars has denounced Al-Khalifa regime’s misguided measure to quell popular revolution through trying a moderate cleric as Sheikh Isa Qassim.

The Union’s statement came on Thursday against the trial; “the cruel and petty regime’s measure once again shocked the noble souls and especially sheikh’s followers inside the country,” it said.

It also severely criticized the international community in merely keeping silence in the face of Bahraini regime’s crackdown, summary trial, execution, revoking Bahraini nationality, and sending to exile Shi’ite citizens; “the regime has broken all records in oppressing its own people’s demands for participation in political life; it has recently found some heart to cross the Rubicon and to hit a symbolic figure of peace and moderation Sheikh Isa Qassim after putting him in house arrest,” the statement emphasized.

“We, the EU Union of Shia Scholars entreaty to the UN and the EU as two important bodies of international prestige to turn to situation in Bahrain to stop injustice and tyranny against citizens who had only demanded their legitimate rights; these bodies should be accountable in the light of their inherent duty to address problems around the world,” it suggested.

As for the Bahraini people, the statement calls them for resistance against the tyranny and despotism of the al-Khalifa regime, praising them for their perseverance in seeking their rights.
