Al-Azhar: Supplication with Loud Voice over Graves Is Recommended

Al-Azhar explained the fiqh rule of supplicating with loud voice over graves in a fatwa recently issued by the committee of fatwa of al-Azhar assembly for Islamic researches and considered it recommended.

One of the issues discussed in Sunni fiqh assemblies is the issue of ziyara, especially visiting the graves of the friends of God, the Prophets (a) and Imams (a),about which, Wahhabi sect believes in its prohibition opposite to most Sunni schools and also Shi’a.

Al-Azhar explained the fiqh rule of supplicating with loud voice over graves in a fatwa recently issued by the committee of fatwa of the assembly for Islamic researches at al-Azhar and stated,

“After burial of the dead body, waiting over the grave and supplicating for the dead person is recommended, as it is mentioned in narrations that after burial of a dead person finished, the Prophet (a) stood over the grave and said, ‘pray for your brother! and let us ask God to keep his faith.’ And it is transmitted from Ibn Mas’ud that after levelling the grave, the Prophet (a) stood up by the grave and said, ‘O God! This friend of us comes to You and passed the world behind. O God! Uphold his speech upon questioning and do not inflict him in the grave to what he has no power to bear.”
