Ayatollah Sayyed Taqi Tabatabaei Qomi was born on February 21, 1923, and died on October 26, 2016.
He was an Iranian Twelver Shia Marja’.
Ayatollahs Taqi Tabatabaei Qomi, Ali Sistani and Mirza Ali Falsafi are the only three people that Grand Ayatollah Abual-Qasim Khoei gave them a written statement for confirmation of their Ijtihad.
Sayyed Taqi was the son of Ayatollah Sayyed Hussain Tabatabaei Qomi (1865-1947) and the younger brother of Ayatollah Sayyed Hassan Tabatabaei Qomi (1912-2007).
During 1936, Sayyed Taqi Qomi moved to Iraq and has studied in seminaries of Karbala and then Najaf under Grand Ayatollah Mohammad Hadi Milani, Abd al-Hadi Shirazi, Hussain Heli, Muhammad Kazem Shirazi, Mohammad Ali Kazemayni Broujerdi, and Abu al-Qasim al-Khoei.
After that he started teaching in the Seminary of Najaf until 1979 when he moved back to Iran and settled in Qom.
Ayatollah Qomi Obtained his Ijtihad certification in 1965 in Najaf.
Ayatollah Qomi has written close to 50 Islamic books (mainly in Arabic), that most of them are now used as the main sources of teaching in the Seminaries of Qom and Najaf.
Ayatollah Sayyed Taqi Tabatabei Qomi passed away on October 26, 2016 in Karbala, Iraq.
