Ayatullah Mirza Hasan Ali Morvarid (R.A.) was born in the holy city of Mashhad in the year 1329 A.H. in a highly respected religious family. His father Hojjat al-Islam wal Muslimeen Shaykh Muhammad Reza Morvarid (1299-1338 A.H.) was one of the leading Ulama in the holy city of Mashhad and closely associated with the leading scholar in Mashhad, Shaykh Hasan Ali Isfahani Nukhadaki. The Morvarid family historically became famous by the great laureate and calligrapher Khaja Shihab al-Din Abdullah Morvarid Kermani (865-955 A.H.).Paternal uncle of Ayatullah Morvarid , Shaykh Ali Akbar Morvarid was the prominent student of the great jurisprudent Ayatullah Akhund Muhammad Kazim Khurasani. His paternal grand-father was the famous theologian, Ayatullah Shaykh Hasan Ali Tehrani (died in 1329 A.H.) who was the leading student of the Grand Marja Ayatullah al-Uzma Mirza Muhammad Hasan Shirazi and one of the prominent religious scholars of the holy city of Mashhad in the fourteenth century Hijrah. His father named him Hasan Ali after the name of the two great Ulama, Ayatullah Shaykh Hasan Ali Tehrani and Shaykh Hasan Ali Isfahani Nukhadaki with whom he was closely associated.
Ayatullah Mirza Hasan Ali Morvarid (R.A.) in the year 1337 A.H., when he was only nine years old lost his father and according to the last-will of his father, Shaykh Hasan Ali Isfahani Nukhadaki took him under his care. His mother who passed in the year 1360 A.H. was a very religious and pious woman.Religious Education
Because of his great interest and zeal in learning Islamic sciences, he joined the Hawzah Ilm’iah (Islamic Seminary) of the holy city of Mashhad at a young age of thirteen years and learned Islamic Sciences from renowned Ulama in Mashhad like Shaykh Hasan Ali Isfahani Nukhadaki and Allamah Shaykh Hashim Qazwini. His prominent teacher was Allamah Ayatullah Mirza Mahdi Isfahani (1303-1365 A.H.)Who was a famous jurisprudent and leading scholar of Qur’anic sciences. He learned the advanced courses of Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh) and the Principles of Islamic jurisprudence (Usul-i Fiqh) as well as the divine sciences preached by the Holy Ahl al-Bayt (A.S.) from Allamah Ayatullah Mirza Mahdi Isfahani.Lectures
After the death of his great teacher, Ayatullah Mirza Hasan Ali Morvarid ó(R.A.) started giving lectures in advanced courses of Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh) and the Principles of Islamic jurisprudence (Usul-i Fiqh) in the Hawzah Ilm’iah (Islamic Seminary) of the holy city of Mashhad. He was the leading professor of Islamic Sciences for a period of more than forty years. During his lengthy career of teaching in the Hawzah Ilm’iah (Islamic Seminary) of the holy city of Mashhad he was able to train a large number of Ulama who are now the leading scholars of Islamic sciences.
Ayatullah Mirza Hasan Ali Morvarid (R.A.) was a close friend and associate of late Ayatullah Mirza Jawad Agha Tehrani.
“Tanbihat Hawl al-Mabda wal Ma’ad” is the summary of Islamic sciences which he has lectured in the Hawzah Ilm’iah (Islamic Seminary) of the holy city of Mashhad. On the request of his students, he compiled it into the form of a book which have been reprinted many times and translated into many languages.
He was also the founder of two Islamic seminaries “Be’sat” and “Sa’adat” in the holy city of Mashhad where seminary students till now are learning Islamic sciences.
He used to lead the congregational prayers in the famous mosques of the holy city of Mashhad like Madrasa Mirza Jafar, Masjid Hajj Mulla Hashem and Masjid Mulla Hyder, where great number of Ulama, the pilgrims of the holy shrine of Imam Reza (A.S.) and the residents of the holy city of Mashhad always used to attend the congregational prayers led by him. Ayatullah Mirza Hasan Ali Morvarid (R.A.) since his young age daily visited the holy shrine of Imam Reza (A.S.) to perform the Ziyarah (pilgrimage) and continued this noble practice till the last days of his life in spite of his old age and deteriorating health.
His Family
At the age of thirty years, he married a girl from the distinguished religious family of Ayatullah Shaykh Muhammad Taqi Bujnurdi who was a relative of his mother. He was the father of seven sons and three daughters. He took great care in training his children and his family is unique because all his sons and sons-in-law and most of his grandsons are among the distinguished Ulama of the holy city of Mashhad and are also the leading professors in the Islamic seminary of the holy city of Mashhad.
Demise
Ayatullah Mirza Hasan Ali Morvarid (R.A.) passed away on Tuesday 19th Shaban 1425 Hijrah/ 5th October 2004 at the age of 96 years and was buried in the holy shrine of Imam Reza (A.S.).
