The Karbala Center for Studies and Research, affiliated with the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine has announced the call for the 9th International Scientific Conference on Arbaeen Pilgrimage.
The conference will be organized by the Astan in cooperation with the center as well as a number of academic bodies, universities and centers in Iraq.
The motto of this year’s scholarly event is Arbaeen Pilgrimage; A Manifestation of Spiritual Values and Scientific Progress”.
Objectives of the conference:
– Strengthening the civilization project: highlighting the importance of the civilization a manifestation of which is the Arbaeen pilgrimage and emphasizing its high human values in the face of intellectual challenges.
– Encouraging studies and research: Supporting research related to the Arbaeen pilgrimage in different fields.
– Demonstrating the role of human values: extracting lessons learning which is necessary to build a virtuous society – based on the reformation plan that Imam Hussain (AS) called for.
– Enhancing cultural cooperation: Encouraging open dialogue on cultural and social issues with respect for the opinions of others.
– Examination of the actions of previous regimes (ruling Iraq): Examination of the actions of past ruling regimes regarding the ritual of the Arbaeen pilgrimage and the means they used against pilgrims.
– Creating an appropriate scientific environment: Creating an environment that encourages communication and the presentation of new ideas to find sustainable solutions to many challenges.
– Documentation of intellectual products: publication of the intellectual output of researchers in the center’s specialized scientific journal.
– Strengthening religious and national ties: Activating the highest human values and turning the Arbaeen pilgrimage into a civilization event that brings together all the Iraqi spectrums and all segments of the Islamic and human society.
– Field opportunities for researchers: Providing field opportunities to get acquainted with the culture of the Arbaeen pilgrimage and the system of human values created by the pilgrims.
– Research on the application of modern technologies: the use of technological tools in the development of public services to pilgrims, such as artificial intelligence applications.
– Studying the phenomenon of millions-strong pilgrimage: Analyzing and studying the millions of people who attend the pilgrimage every year and providing perspectives and programs necessary to manage that population.
The center has invited scholars and researchers to submit their papers on the themes of the conference.
Authors of selected papers will be invited to attend the conference and present their work in Karbala (accommodation and hospitality will be provided by the Karbala Center for Studies and Research).
The deadline for submitting papers in June 15, 2025 and the international conference will be held in Karbala on August 17-18, 2025.
