Identifying the Righteous Marjiʿiyyah

In this book, Āyatullāh Sayyid Munīr al-Khabbāz gives an extended overview into the concept of the Marjʿiyyah, and discusses the character and qualifications of Grand Āyatullāh Sayyid ʿAlī al-Sistānī.

Despite the long absence of the Imām of the Age (aj) and the events and hardships that have struck the umma, God (swt) has granted this umma men who will preserve it from being lost, strengthen it and lead it to goodness and righteousness. In this book, Āyatullāh Sayyid Munīr al-Khabbāz gives an extended overview into the concept of the Marjʿiyyah, and discusses the character and qualifications of Grand Āyatullāh Sayyid ʿAlī al-Sistānī.

The secret behind the power of the Marja‘īyyah goes back to its sanctified status among people. For the Imamīs, the Marja‘īyyah is an extension of the position of the infallible (ma‘ṣūm) Imam. The Marja‘īyyah acquired as sanctity from two factors: encompassing the knowledge of Ahl al-Bayt and piety (taqwā). If the position of Marja‘īyyah was a government position, or a position based on military power, financial fortune, or media mouthpieces, it wouldn’t have acquired this unique sanctity that causes millions of shī‘īs to sacrifice their lives, children, and money at a word issued by the Marja‘īyyah.
